the value of bee sales:
As we grow our apiary through splitting our hives, we keep in mind our goal of selling bees suitable to grow the apiary stock of other beekeepers in our community. All bees sold by Mizell Honey are Italian Carnolian Hybrids which build up quick in the spring and produce large honey crops, while still requiring less food supply. The mix of Carnolian genetics with this hybrid bee is what allows for their thrifty nature, while the Italian genetics allow for the quick buildup and larger honey supply.
Commercial beekeepers commonly acquire bees to maintain their hive count and build up stock. On the contrary, the acquisition of bees for a hobbyist or newer beekeeper is typically for the initial buildup of their apiary and also as a cheaper alternative to purchasing a hive outright.
